This has been the single most powerful trick for me with contextual advertising. The Clueless Contextual Advertiser Trick. No, you’re not the clueless advertiser. It’s the people advertising on your webpages.
I have a number of niches that have paid off for me–and keep paying off on a daily basis– strictly because of Clueless Advertisers.
Because of these advertisers, I get $1.00 per click, and even as high as $2.00.
Here’s how it works: You will want advertisers to be those who are happy to overpay for advertising–resulting in more pay for you. You are looking for a niche populated with a lot of original producers or retailers of products or services–rather than sneaky internet marketers.
For some reason that I have never been able to figure out, the big corporations are absolutely clueless about online marketing, as seen in this classic PPC example from Kodak. They have big organizations and they most likely shove the job of internet marketing to someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. Couple that with the fact that these corporations have huge budgets to blow–and they will max out their advertising budget, which is a good thing for you.
Do a search for the niche you are interested in. When the results come up, don’t look at the natural or organic results. Look at the pay-per-click ads along the top and right side. Even though you will not be buying pay-per-click traffic, this is a good indication of who is willing to pay big bucks to advertise their product. If the domain names you see tend to be for big corporations, you’re in business.
