Say what you will about e-books–they help drive the online marketplace.  No, we’re not talking about Amazon Kindle-type e-books.  We’re talking about the $47 guide to you find on AdWords to stop your dog from chewing up the furniture.  Or to help you grow bigger biceps.  Or to lose your acne, become a better World of Warcraft gamer, fix your car, make money while you sleep, or gain confidence.

E-books on the Internet marketplace satisfy basic desires and emotions.  And a glance at the catalog of these e-books can tell you more about the psychological makeup of most humans than a thousand PhD’s ever could.  The great thing for publishers is that, once you pay out the initial front-end costs of building the infoproduct, it costs virtually nothing to create more and distribute them.

Why Sell E-Books Online?

Hint…High profits.  E-book fall in the general category of infoproducts and are a favorite of many affiliate marketers to promote.

Why on earth would a consumer buy an e-book off the Internet for $50 or more to help them:  stop a barking dog, get dates, play better poker, become a dancer, and more?

Why do this when the local Borders or Barnes and Noble, or Amazon, has comparable e-books for less money–and on paper, too.

That is the true mystery of e-book promotion, but also the true beauty of it.  E-books cost very little to produce but can be sold for large amounts of money.  Both the merchant and the affiliate take a good, healthy cut from this arrangement.

One thing is clear:  e-books that sell well online are all non-fiction.  Few fiction e-books ever sell within the aggressive Internet cash strategizer world.

Out of that non-fiction pool, the e-books that sell best are those that help the consumer achieve something.  Like quieting that neighbor’s dog.  Or losing weight.  Or making money.

E-books that sell well drill deeply into the core of human emotions.  Top-selling niches found in Clickbank include:

  • Money
  • Prestige
  • Health

But again, why these online ebooks instead of the local bookstore?  One explanation may be that the online ebook sellers offer an instant solution.  Their ebooks, often available through Clickbank or PayDotCom, are instantly downloadable to the buyer minutes after the credit card has cleared.

Another reason, which I more strongly believe, is that online book publishers have their finger on the pulse of what truly drives buyers to buy.  Most online book publisher are salespeople first, authors second.  They operate as what I call Strategizers, searching and exploiting areas with high profit margins.
