Article marketing means that you leverage the high-traffic and -ranking capabilities of huge portals like EzineArticles.com in order to get direct clicks to your site and to get backlinks to your site, as well.  I’ll mostly cover Ezine Articles because the effectiveness of other article sites has dropped over time.

Why You Need to Play Ezine’s Game

Ezine Articles is playing the ultimate, dangerous game with Google in terms of keeping its content high-quality.  Ezine knows that the minute its quality drops, Google will manually devalue Ezine.  So, whatever Google’s standards are, you will find that Ezine mainly duplicates these standards.  If you don’t know basic web content standards, I cannot cover all of it in this article, but suffice to say it involves things a few things like:

  • Fresh, original content.
  • Low or zero affiliate links.
  • Length (350 words minimum).
  • SEO considerations like keyword repetition, headers, some bolded text, etc.

It’s a “you scratch my back, I scratch your back” situation.  You write free articles for Ezine and they get ad revenue; they provide you with highly-ranked positions for your articles and links to your own site.

Let’s look at how the article marketing process works.

Ezine Articles

1.  Sign Up

At the start with Ezine, you start out on a “trial basis” as a so-called Basic Level Author.  The thing to do at this point is provide 10-15 articles of the highest quality so that Ezine can evaluate you.  If you “pass,” then you are bumped up to Platinum Level Author status, meaning you can submit an unlimited number of articles and your approval time is faster than other authors.  Yes, admittedly it’s a strange set-up, to be begging for a chance to write articles for free, but it is a game worth playing.

2.  Write 10-15 Perfect Articles

Familiarize yourself with the Ezine Terms of Service.  Who ever reads these things?  I don’t.  But in this case, it’s kind of your “Bible” to getting those this trial period.  Actual humans do review these articles, so it doesn’t hurt either to stick to more reputable niches.  If you have any reputable niches, that is.

3.  Wait for All Articles to Publish

It does take about 2 weeks for all of your articles to get passed and published.

4.  Send Message Requesting Bump in Membership

Using the Ezine PM system, write a short, friendly note asking if you could possibly be elevated to Platinum Status.  Note:  this is NOT Premium Status; everyone gets this mixed up, and it’s a huge difference.  Premium Status is the paid membership that costs a pricy $100 per month.  For Premium Status, you get a few more perks in addition to what you get with Platinum Status–but not much more.  Certainly not $100 worth of perks.

Just be patient, be a good little boy or girl, and do the necessary steps to get Platinum Status.
